How to boost your broadband speed on a Mac

If you are using broadband on the road like EVDO, or even in your home, you can boost your speeds by applying one simple UNIX command that changes the TPCU receive buffer.

Disclaimer: Try at your own risk!

Open Terminal and type

%sudo sysctl -w net.inet.tcp.recvspace=65536 then enter

To go back to the original settings open terminal and type

%sudo sysctl -w net.inet.tcp.recvspace=32768 then enter

I did this on my Verizon EVDO card and saw an immediate improvement on my dowload speed. (see below)

Before applying the tweak

After the tweak
