Who’s Trying to own my Mac

Well if you listened to the last Typical Mac User podcast with Paul and Larry from Paul Dot Com Security Weekly, you heard that our Macs are not exempt from attack. Using a great tool called Check Failed Password Attempts I found 652 examples of people trying to get into my home iMac under the root account alone (see pic below).

I do use defense in depth concepts in securing my assets, do you? Dowload Check Failed Password Attempts and find out who’s trying to own your mac?

  1. Hi Victor,

Great podcast, as usual. But, I must confess ignorance of this problem. How is it exactly someone is accessing your machine for you to get that many attempts? Are you directly on the internet with no NAT router?

My G5 stays on the internet 24/7, but I only had two attempts, and they were by me fat-fingering my password. Could you follow up on this?

Thanks for the great podcasts, always enjoyable!
    Alan
