Mpix

I know it was almost a month ago but I am finally getting around to going through the bag of goodies I got from Macworld. One of the many booths that caught my eye was that of Mpix, an online digital printing company. At first glance, it looked as if Mpix was just another player in the crowded market of online photo printers. As I looked around though I discovered they offered a lot of other products besides the standard 4×6 prints. Their samples of calendars, greeting cards and magazine covers looked awesome, as did their statuettes and gallery wraps.

My family and I take a lot of pictures and are always looking for creative ways to share them. We looked through the mPix website and decided to order a deck of playing cards with a recent picture of our two daughters.

After downloading and installing mPixPRESS we were able to quickly upload our picture and doing some simple editing.

Within just a few minutes we had our playing cards designed and ordered. Four days later, the cards arrived in the mail (and we ordered with the least expensive shipping option). These are high quality cards and the picture is superb.

Now, we’re looking for pictures to use for statuettes, greeting cards, post cards and calendars - all great gift ideas.

Listener Wally from Alabama wrote me tonight to show me his Apple Tattoo. Check this out, this is a dedicated Apple fan. Ok Wally now it’s time to get the Typical Mac User Podcast “ink” and be the first.

Have I mentioned that my listeners are just plain hip!

This DasBoot won’t sink

Today SubRosaSoft released Das Boot. This is a free that can take a third party boot CD (like from TechTool Pro) fand creates a bootable diagnostic device from a USB of Firewire device or even an iPod. I did this using my spare 3rd generation iPod and it works like a charm.

You can even add applications (like Firefox) that you want added to your boot disk. Das Boot is available now and requires Mac OS X 10.3.9 or later to run.

I love all things nostalgia, and this matchbook caught my eye. Imagine if they would have known about Web 2.0
