It's an awesome design alright. I took a picture of it and when I changed the aperture I could see behind the grill it was cool. Here is the pic I uploaded it http://farm1.static.flickr.com/164/431091834_dcb926c675_o.jpg

Victor, I forgot to mention this...

All the G5s and newer Mac Pros use that cheese grater style case. If you closely look at each hole, no matter where on the machine, you'll find each hole is a precise circle, even where the metal is bent. I once read about how much work has to be done to achieve this, which shows just how much thought goes into this case design.

You dawg... that is a sweet setup, congrats!

I have an older PowerMac Dual G5 2.0 and am dying to upgrade, but this ol' box still runs good. By the time my Applecare is up, hopefully they'll have a "Sweet 16" model, ha-ha!

I also have a 13" MacBook for the road, but when it comes to the desktop, I love those "cheese graters".

Enjoy your new toy!

At my Apple Store, we have several 3.0GHz models, and we also install graphic card upgrades and hard drives, so it's quite possible they just didn't have a 3.0GHz or the upgrades in stock for you.

Although I am amazed at how difficult it was for you to get the original computer you wanted I loved the ending to this saga! You certainly have made me jealous with your new Pro! Great pics, too.

Ok so, yes I canceled the iMac (can't afford both). As far as the Apple store. I was able to call in and say "What is the biggest configured Mac Pro you have" They told me a 2.66GHZ with 1 Gig of Ram (You know your basic Mac Pro).

I asked if they could add the memory (yes they could and they did).

I asked if they could add the Bluetooth and Airport card (yes they could and they did)

I asked if they could add a 500GB HD (no they could not and did not) I did buy a 500GB HD that night at COMP USA for 198 (out the door WOW) and installed it on the MAC PRO in (and I'm not kidding you) 7 minutes flat (I timed it).

So yes all great comments and I agree that it's a good out come. Do I feel more MANLY <makes gorilla noise> By God, I think I do <wink>

Victor</wink></makes>

That is great how it all worked out. I think you should have had the MacPro from the start. This is a much more robust machine than the iMac. That machine is for kids to play with. The MacPro IS A MANLY MACHINE. (says it in a deep voice with reverb).

Cool Victor, can't wait to listen to the story on your podcast.

Congratulations Victor - it is an awesome machine - I am also looking to upgrade to Mac Pro from my iMac 24" (although I do not have any problems with it - but once you go Mac - you just can get enough I guess)

Looking forward to hear about your experience with Mac Pro in upcoming podcasts.

All the best

So Victor, are you saying ther local Apple store DID carry out the upgrades for you in the end? The forum threads seem to think an Apple store can't do this sort of work..?
