Well those who said there was “Just One More Icon” on the iPhone were right. Today Apple revealed that the iPhone will have a YouTube player built in. That’s another killer application for this much anticipated phone.
Doesn’t that mean the iPhone will support flash i thought they were in flash format or is that some completely different thing?

YouTube is re-encoding their content in the H.264 format. The iPhone will not support flash, at least initially. Apple say 10,000 videos will be encoded in H.264 by the iPhone launch with the rest of the catalog “this fall.”
I’m not sure how Apple TV is playing the content, whether it can read Flash or if it’s just seeing the H.264 stuff. Haven’t had a chance to go home and play with my Apple TV yet.

Sorry, that last post should read: ” Apple SAID 10,000 videos will be encoded in H.264 by the iPhone launch…”
I’ve recently lost my ability to speak and type coherently!

What is stopping the iphone from playing flash??

It’s not included in the architecture. I’m sure it does not need it cause it has quick time. Lots of phones don’t have flash. Obviously if they are working this closely with YouTube they are going to overcome limitations somehow. My guess is the content for the iphone will come from the application pointing to special servers at YouTube. Just a guess. Will they be H.264. Maybe but those are pretty big for this phone so we will see.
