Apple Scripts (including show a message when you open a folder)

  • Open – Show Comments in Dialog • This script provides an easy way to have a message displayed whenever a folder is opened. To use, enter the message in the Comment field in the Finder’s Information window for the attached folder. When the folder is opened, the script checks to see if the Comment field contains a text message and displays it in a dialog window.

Hello Victor. Thank you for attempting to answer my question on the show. My smart playlist works as I described in iTunes but does not work on my iPod (it used to work/update automatically). Maybe there is something else.

My Headset: Model: Logitch USB 300. I checked there driver area. There are no drivers for Mac. It says OSX should have drivers that work automatically. I will check to see if I have a CD. I don’t remember. I couldn’t find any help on their forums for it either.

      Thanks for trying Victor.

Hi Victor, This is in responce to Jim Felder’s problem with his Logitech headset. I use one also and used to have to reboot in order to hear anything. But then I downloaded SoundSource Free from Rogue Amoeba. http://rogueamoeba.com/freebies/
Victor, I believe you have mentioned this before. It sits in your menu bar. When I plug in my headset I use SoundSource to set the input and output to my headset but leave the system sounds to the internal speakers. Hope this helps.

      Hi There:

Playlist problem. The following will break live updating on the iPod.

      Using Podcast is true/false
      Using Video kind
Referring to any playlist that uses the above conditions will also break this (I had an exclude playlist that almost all my playlist referred to and it used podcast and video kind thus breaking live updating on every one of my playlists!)

Hopefully this might help you out. As an aside make sure that the date/time are okay on your iPod

    • Stuart

PS. Can you include your exact rules for your playlist? Have you posted the question at iLounge? (I frequent there). If so can you post a reference link and I could try to help you there.

Hi again! I think the problem isn’t with itunes I think the problem is with the ipod updater. Check that when you plug in your ipod you set up to auto sync your entire library, auto sync just specific playlists, or manual sync. Let me know if that helps, if not I’ll keep searching.

Thank you Stuart and Michelle. I will try these and get back to you.

I did have the podcast is true on my podcast playlist and the works. When the podcast is done, it disappears. In my Random Player playlist of music. I did remove the Podcast is False. That DID fix the problem but it only works if I hit the Menu button on the iPod and go back into the playlist and it has been updated/song disappeared. This issue is the song isn’t going away and a new song being added dynamically instead of me having to get out of the playlist and back in. I am not at the moment where I can list my settings in the playlist. I can do that when I get home in about 4 hours.

I have iTunes auto launch when I plug in iPod. I have specific playlists selected under Music. “only sync checked items” is checked.

My Random Player smart playlist is set to:
      • Playcount is 0
      • Skip Count is 0
      • Genre is not Podcast
      • Kind is not MPEG-4 video file
      • limit to 15
      • match only checked items
      • live updating

The above settings don’t work? or is it now fixed?

    • http://www.giftsshirtsandmore.com Jim

Sorry, no it still doesn’t work properly. I still have to get out of the playlist and back in before it updates.

      Hi Jim

i also have an Logitech USB headphones, it also use to be a very pedantic device – hardly ever worked unless i restarted my mac (as you have), then it failed and i sent it back to its maker (Logitech) because it was only 3 months old.

they sent me back a new one and it works now. sometimes it does become a bit pedantic because my mac is low on memory, but i just have to restart the machine and it is fine.

the headphones failed because of the USB connector where the small Mini Jack connects to the USB broke, which seems to be a common problem with Logitech.
