iPhone says. . .more than 2 Billion e-mails messages unread. Ouch!

I looked at my iPhone and saw that it showed I had more than 2 Billion (2,147,483,633) e-mails that were waiting to be read. Don’t know what kind of glitch this is on my iPhone, but wow, I’m not going on vacation any time soon if this happens <wink>.

This happened while I was in Colorado riding down a train after being more than 14,000 feet up. Who knows what it was, but it was funny.

  1. Hahaha, that would scare me!

  2. Do you have it linked to your Gmail account? Maybe it’s a glitch where it is displaying the amount of data in the inbox (2,147,483,633 bytes = 1.99GB) as unread messages?

  3. No Adam it’s ok now, it was just showing wrong data for a moment. Again just funny. It now has the right data.

  5. Hey Victor,

I’ve been having the same issue with gmail. Very funny oddity. I almost died when I first saw it.

  6. Oh interesting Tom that I’m not the only one. I’ll bet it’s a Gmail thing.

  7. I think you need to go into your gmail’s POP settings and turn on “Enable POP only for mail that arrives from now on”

That way, it will only download new e-mails and not your whole inbox from when you first opened your Gmail account.

  8. Thanks I will try that for sure and report on the findings.

  9. That happened to me, too. I worried for about 10 seconds, got distracted and forgot about it –it hasn’t reappeared. Forgetfulness or ADD comes in handy.

  10. well apple said that the iphone will guaranteed work properly up to 10,000 feet, not 14,000 it only woks in a plane because the cabin is pressurized.

  11. Very True Zach, others have commented to me in email that this is happening to them too. I think it’s totally a Google thing and I’m not slamming Apple, it was just funny.

  12. Not just a gmail issue. I have the same problem with my RoadRunner account on my iPhone. It doesn’t seem to prevent me from getting email but that message does pop up at least once a day. The number of unread messages always appears to be the same.

  13. Happens routinely on my roadrunner account, when I’ve deleted ALL my inbox messages, I get a “Load 25 more” and “2 billion something” unread.
