iBust and iWasteGas was the reality for me today

Of course after hearing all the announcements today, I was excited to go to my nearest Apple store in Rancho Cucamonga and get my copy of iLife 08 (family pack), iWork 08(Family pack) and one of the new keyboards. Sure it was a cool $250.00 plus tax, but hey that’s part of the fun right?

So I diligently called my local Apple store and spoke with a live person. I specifically asked if they had the items above and was told “yes we have them.” Great, Mary and would be on our way. So what if it’s 28 Miles one way and gas is $3.22 per gallon. It’s all part of the fun, right?

Go to my local Apple store , and no they don’t have the keyboards yet, no they don’t have iLife 08 family packs, but they do have iWork 08 family packs. Was that all part of the fun. Nope, I got an iBust and an iWasteGas instead. Further more I could not even see one of the new iMacs or the new keyboards because they were not on display. They were selling them out of the back room ( I saw people buying them), but I could not see one or touch one. Too bad.

Apple really should get their retail store supply chain act together, so when they announce products that are “available today” the actually are.

Yes I can order them on the online-store. Yes, I know it was likely human error, and the folks at the Rancho Cucamonga store are good people. However, I’m just disappointed to be ready to give Apple my money and further promote their products only to bust out. OK, rant is over.

  2. Well Comcast has saved me from the Apple product bug today. I could not get up the nerve to go to the Apple Store to buy things when my Internet is out again and the best they can tell me is a tech can come out Friday. Yup in TWO DAYS. Hard to want to go buy new toys when one cannot get on the Net with them. I now have some traffic but its so slow I can barely post this comment

  3. Bummer! I always ask who I’m speaking with on the phone and search them out when I go to purchase. That way, you have someone to quote should you decide to speak to a manager. It may sound mean, but it works, trust me. I’ve noticed now, when I call about product availability, they’ll say “Hold on, I’ll check…”

Too many of them will just say “yeah, we got it” without really checking.

  4. Well I went down to my local apple store prepared to buy and see the new computers. It amazes me how new releases are featured. I did find iLife08 and iWork08 family packs there but they were all on a high shelf where I had to stretch to grab them. No keyboards. No iMac on display. They had them in the back and pulled me out one to take home (my husband wanted it for his office). The new minis were no where to be found…but after digging out my iMac he did come out with a mini that he was able to find. Seems they get boxes and need to unpack to even see what’s there! You need to find a apple salesman who wants to bother. So…got iMac home and pulled out the new keyboard to attach to my PowerMac G5. Very nice indeed. Only problem was it needs a software update to get the new top row keys to work (volume, brightness, etc). Now it’s friday (bought it on tuesday) and finally, this morning, the download was available. Love the new iMac and new software. Did you get back to the store? Displays were put up the next day.

  5. AWWWW too bad Victor, After I got home tuesday and read more about the new iMac I rushed out to my local apple store (about 15 miles) in Oak Brook, IL and stood in line for 40 mins . The place was packed half of the people buying the new iMacs and the rest buying iPod, plus the soon to be students getting laptops. Got my new iMac home and hooked it up with my iMac G5 iSight model and useing the migration assitant I transfered everything over in about 1 hour. OK this machine ROCKS! I was so happy with my G5 but this one makes it pale in comparison. So I guess I’ll hand my G5 down to my mom will look good in her livingroom and I’ll start once again to learn more about Mac’s with my new baby.

Great Shows Victor, keep up the great work.

  6. Oh for got to mention I too love the Keyboard, and I have no problem what so ever with the glossy screen, makes movies and pic’s look so much sharper I think.

  7. I sent my husband out right after the keynote to the Soho store in NYC. A huge store, but they didn’t have anything yet. They said their shipment was late! I called over to the 5th Ave store and they did have iLife 08 so he picked that up. I’m gonna wait on iWork. I was in Fla and at the Boca Apple Store and asked if numbers was scriptable, but the employee didn’t even know what applescript was!?! Thats scary. I hope applescript is supported in Leopard.
They did show me the new keyboards and that it still has the 2 usb 2.0 ports on each side of the bottom which was cool. I kind of want to boycott the new keyboards until they come with the “apple key” :)
