Social Network Overload. I am Sooooo Done
Well that’s it. I am so done with these social networks.
Today I have cancelled the MySpace, Pownce, Facebook, and more to come. I’m keeping Twitter for now , but that’s it (notice no links)
Thanks to Kyle who had done a great job on the MySpace account. Too much SPAM and BACN. It was time to take ACTION!! I can’t lose myself in the process of being a blogger and podcaster. I have to keep it fun, cause if it’s not fun, then I’ll just quit.
Will you be next? Let me know your thoughts.

My friend Mitch was kind enough to remind me that social networking sites are not for everybody. If it was stressing you out, good to hear that you’ll be more relax. Cheers.

Yet another person doing this. It’s interesting to watch how social networks start to fall after a while. I never did MySpace or Facebook and I’m glad I haven’t. Twitter, for me, is where it’s at.

You could of just turned off the email alerts. But do whatever you like

Right, but it’s more than that Andrew. I’m just done.

Personally, I think social networking (SN) is for those who have too much time in their hands. My only so called SN app so far is Adium, the chat program. Even so, I only have about 20 friends and family members (mostly family members). My chat frequency is about four of less sessions per month.

Hi Victor
I never got into Pownce and don’t have Myspace either. I did scale back my use on Facebook but still going to keep my Twitter, Flickr and Blog going. I am loving photography the most so will never give up flickr but right now finding little to say on my blog.

Yes I still love Flickr and use Twitter. I too love photography and find it interesting that Flikr does not get in my way with a bunch of BACN.

are people seriously going to start using the term bacn?

I felt the same way as you did, Victor. I had had enough with social networking. I’m not on Twitter anymore. I tolerate Facebook so I’m keeping it. The rest is just more noise than signal…

You use a social network depending on your age group. In 10 years? I could see them replacing email all together.

Victor, I’m sorry to see you go. I just noticed this morning that you weren’t on my list anymore. I can understand how you feel. I had a person ask me to join FaceBook but to have to build a friend list all over again is just too much….I have other things to do. As curious as I have been about Facebook, I just have too many friends that actually use MySpace and I actually do communicate with them a lot through there. But the problem is that there are so many “me-too” social networking sites that just make life on the internet more antisocial because they can’t interoperate with one another. Why even call it “social networking” if you can’t interoperate???
Again, sorry to see you gone from MySpace and all the others. At least we can still all socialize on TalkShoe, here on your website, or even on meatspace!
Have a great weekend!

Victor I’m only using FaceBook to “spy” on my nieces and nephews. They actually think their 55-year-old uncle is pretty cool.
So I check in once a week to see what’s happening in theor lives. That’s it. Otherwise I agree it’s a time waster and I’m tired of being asked to join Facebook’s Vampire and Zombie networks.
A-a-a-gh… my age is showing!
Next thing I’ll be wearing floodpants, and socks in my sandals.

Sweet Victor!!!
I’ve had you in my thoughts so much and I’m glad that you did this.
As we grow this community and our participation within it, we have to do what works, and what works is truly unique to the user.
What does have value to you? and what enhances, and casts light on the type of community and work that you choose? and does it work?
I’ve been mulling these questions for myself, and continue to cultivate what is ultimate for me. I am glad that you’ve made such a powerful choice.
I hope it helps others do the same.
Can’t wait to hear and see more from you!
