More Major Changes coming to Gmail

According to the Official GMail Blog there are changes a foot over at Gmail.

recently the Gmail team has been working on a structural code change that we’ll be rolling out to Firefox 2 and IE 7 users over the coming weeks (with other browsers to follow). You won’t notice too many differences to start with, but we’re using a new model that enables us to iterate faster and share components (we now use the same rich text editor as Groups and Page Creator, and the Contact Manager can be seen in several Google apps). A few other things you will notice are some new keyboard shortcuts and the ability to bookmark specific messages and email searches. more

DockRestore easier than Terminal to change your dock

My good friend Paul Figgiani reminded me that there is a new application DockRestore that lets you switch with only a click of a button to the old 2D dock in tiger and switch back to the new 3 look of the Dock. It’s donationware, so if you like it, be kind and donate. You can also learn more about Leopard from Paul Figgiani at the Podcast Academy Blog

How to win 10,000 potential new listeners.

I wanted to report out on the Podcast Ready contest that we all participated in this summer. Although I did not win the 100,000 downloads, I did get an honorable mention which means 10,000 downloads. I could not have done that without you the listeners. Thank you to all that participated. All of you who are new to the show as a result of PodcastReady… Welcome to the Typical Mac User Community. I have been gaining listeners for the past moth and it’s wonderful to see our TMUP community grow.

Here is a link the the post about the other winners

PodcastReady is a wonderful alternative to iTunes and makes it pretty darn easy to get the content that you love.

On Facebook again

A while back I wrote a post about quiting all social networks except for Twitter. My Friends In Tech pal Kevin Devin had also quit Twitter. Today I saw that Kevin was back on Twitter and that he had made a FIT Facebook Group for Friends In Tech.

That was enough reason for me to give Facebook another try. If Kevin can comeback to Twitter , I can give Facebook (which seems to be the defacto network for us geeks) another try.

Yes Virginia, I’m allowed to change my mind. I’m not excited about it, I’m curious.

By the way join theTypical Mac User Facebook Group or the FIT Facebook Group.

IMAP is coming to GMail

Listener Brian ( In Texas) sent me the picture below of his Gmail client . When he went to settings then “Forwarding and POP” section, it shows a new IMAP Access section which includes verbiage that says “Configure your email client (e.g. Outlook, Thunderbird, iPhone). According to Brian “There were no instructions available on the support center, merely an option to enable or disable imap.”

Another friend in South Carolina Kreg Steppe, has confirmed he has this option too . I am in California and I do not have this option yet. Google must be doing a roll-out of this feature. Let’s hope so as this would be a much needed feature.

Thanks to Brian for the scoop. This is unconfirmed by Google. Google now has some IMAP documentation. Fantastic news.
