Rene thanks for the update. I will NOT be choosing to use Time machine for my connected drives that would take too much room. I am still not 100% satisfied that a 2:1 ratio for the HD is appropriate and don't necessarily agree with Adam on this. He stated that you need at least a 1:1 ratio and I do agree with that.

I think a 2:1 ratio could be overkill but I agree that HD space is cheap so why not do it if you want. For me I did re-partition my Time Machine partition to equal a 1:1.5 ratio. Thanks for the great comments

Ah, I now have a reference for people needing at least twice the space for a Time Machine drive compared to the drive space you already have. Adam Christianson said so in the Maccast number 204 of October 24, 2007.

It seems Victor indeed has to reconsider his backup strategy and buy a really, really big hard disk for all his connected hard disks in his Mac Pro.

Good one! I am a switcher and I did not know how to partition hard drives. Very easy to follow! It worked perfect for me.

Victor, I wrote you an e-mail message about Time Machine. In essence, I couldn't find an article online that stated that you would need twice the disk space of your boot volume. So, please, disregard that remark.

Apple Insider has written a good article about Time Machine, which is interesting to read.

Well looks like I re partition this baby then (or at least when Leopard comes out) . I'll simply move the data from one of my several external drive to an internal and use it for Time machine. Interesting news indeed . I guess if our friends at Cupertino would release a bit more official information , then I would not have to guess about my purchases. I know , I know I could have waited. However at $150 foro 750Gb it still worth it.

Victor- great screencast. However, a, uh... "little bird" told me that Time Machine is going to require it's own separate hard drive, and will not work off a partition of another drive. Makes sense when you think about it because the time machine partition will likely be in the new ZFS format.

I too recently bought a 500GB drive that I planned on partitioning between Time Machine and other media, but looks like I'll be buying yet another hard drive now. Unless you want to loan me one, looks like you have plenty!

Wow really then I'm going to have to rethink that partition strategy. I did not know it was going to need twice the size of your disks volume. that seems like a lot. If you can let me know where you found this information I'll thank you so much.

Victor,

Mr C,

Another fantastic screencast, easy to follow and understand.

I think the utilities folder is neglected by all but the most geeky of us and its great to see you put some fire back into these great Apps, like I have always said, Macs will do most if not all the things you need out of the box.

More please :-)

And thank you.

Don McAllister better watch out looks like you might have a new profession Victor, nice and simple I like it, ere by the way perhaps the next screencast should be how to rename a partition, I'm sure you've already done that he he.
