I will NOT be choosing to use Time machine for my connected drives that would take too much room. I am still not 100% satisfied that a 2:1 ratio for the HD is appropriate and don't necessarily agree with Adam on this. He stated that you need at least a 1:1 ratio and I do agree with that. I think a 2:1 ratio could be overkill but I agree that HD space is cheap so why not do it if you want. For me I did re-partition my Time Machine partition to equal a 1:1.5 ratio. I'll simply move the data from one of my several external drive to an internal and use it for Time machine. Interesting news indeed . I guess if our friends at Cupertino would release a bit more official information , then I would not have to guess about my purchases. I know , I know I could have waited.
