Victor, I would like to add two small remarks to this podcast:

    1) You say that column view is ‘always alphabetized’
In fact, you can change the order simply by going to ‘view->show view options’ (command-j) and set the ‘arrange by’ drop down menu to date, size etc.

    2) You say that ‘one of the neat things about column view is that with command-w you can close down the window.’
That is indeed true for any of the view modes and in fact for most windows, also in applications etc (=file->close window). (Just don’t hit command-q by mistake as that will close the whole application.)

Thanks for covering the basics in your great podcasts!

Hope you do not mind a Leopard Mail question here, Victor. Since Leopard, I cannot drag ‘n drop emails into folders in the left pane. I used to left click on the email and hold it down and drag it into the folder of choice. I cannot do this simple task anymore. Does anyone have any ideas what I am doing wrong? Or a setting I need?

p.s. Everything else in Leopard is going well!

Marie check your permissions in disk utilities. Mail.app still does this for sure. I’ll send you an email with a short screencast showing you how.

Thanks so much Victor. God bless you. Your generosity and kindness are an inspiration. You help others without expecting anything at all in return. Often you are helping behind the scenes where no one can see the extraordinary lengths you will go to for folks.

On my Leopard issue, I think I have fixed it although it is still finicky. I deleted the .plist file in Mail and reset everything from there. I can now drag ‘n drop (although finicky).

And, wow, repairing permissions in Leopard takes a long time compared to Tiger! I had a lot of permissions that were in need of repair though; so worth the wait.

Thanks again. And great podcasts lately on how to use Leopard’s finder.
