dotMac - Sharing your Address Book
by: George Starcher, Associate Editor
Well well. All this talk about sharing features in iCal. Really only useful if you have access to a calDav server. BUT. What if you are the simple Mac user at home. You have the family pack for dotMac and want to share the contacts between yourself and your wife?
Maybe it has been there all along even in Tiger, but I only noticed it yesterday. Shame on me if it was there before.
- Open up your address book. Make sure you have the email address @mac.com populated in the contact entry for the person you want to share ALL your contacts with.
- Open Properties for the Address Book application and go to the Sharing Tab.
- Check the Box for “Share your address book”
- Click the + to add the desired person(s) and whether they can edit or just view.
- Finish off with clicking send invitation.
They will get an email they can click the link to automatically open up address book and subscribe to your entire address book. Perfect for your spouse.

I have tried to look around and the answer seems to be you can’t or I’m missing something, so here’s the question.
Can you share an Address book amongst different users on the same machine… am I being stupid doh!

Well this works if both users are dotMac users say using a family pack. Not sure of any other simple ways right now.

Thanks George the only thing both are (infact there’s 4 of us using the machine) is iChat users so no purchased dotMac accounts.
And yes I think that the more the others use the iMac the more they all want access to their own machines, hey that NEVER happened when we had a Windows machine I wonder why!
