Easy Screencasting - Jing with iDisk from dotMac
by: George Starcher, Associate Editor
Kevin Devin one of our fellow Friends in Tech members posted about a cool tool called Jing. It is from Techsmith, the maker of Snagit and Camtasia. Jing is a very easy to use screencasting tool for Mac and Windows. It is currently free. But you can read more over on the FiT blog post Kevin wrote. I want to show you how to make it publish to your iDisk. This is great for making quick how to videos for those family member switchers you got onto the Mac side for Christmas.
First you need to go into your iDisk, enter the Sites folder, create a folder called screencasts
Now that you made the destination on your iDisk, you need to configure Jing to use it.
Next you need to put in the Target destination, Share link and Video embed code. It will look like the below but you need to substitute the word myiDisc for your dotMac username. Here is the code so you can copy, paste and edit for your dotMac name. Once you put this in and click ok then you can use Jing to publish to your dotMac idisk and share those videos easily with the folks you wish. One thing to note. If you have your idisk set to work offline and sync then it may have to sync first before the videos are available to other folks.
Target destination: /Volumes/myiDisc/Sites/screencasts
Share link: http://homepage.mac.com/myiDisc/screencasts/[filename]
Video embed code: < embed src=”http://homepage.mac.com/myiDisc/screencasts/[filename]” HEIGHT=[height] WIDTH=[width]>
