Leopard 10.5.2

Looks like Apple has released Mac OS X 10.5.2. This new maintenance release should provide us with a ton of fixes to both bugs and security issues that have been discovered in Leopard since its release in October.

More to come on this as we download this build and start using it.

*Update* Hot diggity dog! The 10.5.2 update fixed the automatic network share discovery issues I was having with two of my macs. I can now see my Airport Extreme NAS drive every time as well as the shared out drive on my Windows Media Center.

  1. 10.5.2 loaded most (haven't tried all yet) apps seem to be working OK, watch out for the Graphics update that comes after the 10.5.2 update. Required a new Software update search.

  2. 10.5.2 still isn't seeing Windows machines on my network “automatically” as advertised and as it worked in 10.5.0. It broke with .1 and isn't fixed in .2

  3. Just did the update and got some very scary blue screen action on my new MacBook Pro 15″. It hit me that after seeing the update here I got to excited and didn't have a back up besides time machine. Although I think time machine is great, back ups are vital and you can never be too cautious. I got lucky, for an hour or so when powering up I kept getting set up assistant asking me to enter my contact info over and over. I set it up to pull data from my time machine and then after an hour or so nothing was happening and initially the assistant froze. After about 5 minutes I used my Touch to schedule an appointment at the genius bar just in case, then I got access to the top left apple which allowed me to restart. It went back to a blue screen then rebooted and it appeared to make connection to some quicktime update it might have lost connection to on the initial restart. Either way the need to back up before a big update became a real scare for a few minutes there. Just a reminder, back up, time machine or not, just be safe. I'll be backing up now just a lesson to self.

  4. I like some of the new features. I like having the Time Machine menu item, cause I'm always checking to see what time I did my last backup. And it's cool to watch the hands on the clock move as it's backing up. :P

Also, list view in Stacks is great! Now it's really easy for me to browse my HUGE Downloads folder, as well as my new downloads folder for Speed Download. And my web server's in there, so I can easily open files I want to edit.

I'm also doing my Mac Maintenance and doing my Repair Disk Permissions before and after the system update, like Steve said to.

And I just noticed that when you click on the Airport menu item, and it starts searching for the networks, there's now one of those activity spinners, so you can see what's happening. Nice touch!

  5. LOL you should always make sure you have a good backup before doing an update like this. I keep a clone using carbon copy cloner on the side.

  6. I installed 10.5.2 on my Dual 2GHz G5, Macbook Pro, and my new Mac Pro (which arrived this evening!). All is well (so far) on all three Macs – I've been experiencing a lot of kernel panics on the MBP, and I hope that 10.5.2 will address that. I'll have to see how things go for the next week or so to really get a better perspective on how well this OS update behaves…

  7. I also did the update and all went fairly well. I did have the blue screen which hung on my Mac Pro but I did re-boot and it worked I added some content last night to the show being released tonight since they did change Stacks.
