I made my buying decision… MacBook Pro
After anticipating the new MacBook Pro and lusting after the MacBook Air. Today I pushed the “Order” button on a new MacBook Pro. The Air was calling my name like a technology siren. However after looking at the bottom line pricing, it was an easy decision.
The base line price difference for me between a MacBook Pro and a MacBook Air was $39.00 $149 U.S.(with my corporate discount). How could I not get the more powerful Penryn Chipset, new Gestures Mouse Pad , and a much more powerful computer for $39.00 $149 more? Well I couldn’t . Now I did update the 200 Gb 7200 RMP HD, and of course bought Apple Care. Here are the details.
Victor’s new MacBook Pro
15-inch, 2.4GHz
2GB 667MHz DDR2 SDRAM – 2x1GB
Backlit Keyboard/Mac OS – U.S. English
SuperDrive 8x (DVD±R DL/DVD±RW/CD-RW)
MacBook Pro 15-inch Widescreen Display
200GB Serial ATA Drive @ 7200 rpm
2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo

Congrats!!! Let us know what you think of it when you get it!

Again proving my point. Everyone lusts after MBA's but no one is BUYING them. The MBA is Apple TV. It won't sell until Take 2.

Victor,
I made the same choice that you did, pulling the trigger on the new MacBook Pro at lunch today. I'm sure we made the right choice

I must say that I am torn right now.. the “blackbook” sees to be calling my name given how close it is to the MBP specs… do not need the extra oumf the MBP offers…
The AIR is a possibility but it seems underpowered for the price… I am having trouble relating what I will lose out… I basically want to use the laptop to sit besides anywhere in the house and surf the web, watch clips, manage my music and videos in iTunes, etc…
I am a little down that the new upgrades to the MP do not include the LED upgrade, a backlit keyboard and the touch pad…
Anyhow, congrats on you new MBP.

As I was writing a piece on the Macbook Air just now, at http://www.photographworks.com/ I came to much the same conclusion until my wife told me that for her, the difference in weight would be a big attraction if she had to commute every day. As I said, perhaps they should call it the Macbook Commute?
