Try http://www.informationweek.com/news/windows/mic...

It would appear you need Vista Business or Vista Ultimate to downgrade. And you can downgrade to Windows 2000 if you want. You will also need a Windows XP key. My understanding is that you can use an existing one, as you will be changing it to the Vista keys when you activate. You will need to activate by phone, and speak to a rep to explain you are downgrading. And bingo, you should get an activation code linked to the Vista lisence.

Unless I'm wrong. Again. :)

And 2) I think you are using more room by using Boot Camp. Parallels and Fusion both support the idea of expanding disk images. I cannot remember how Parallels does it, but Fusion defaults to a disk image that is smaller than what you specify. It will expand the virtual disk as needed up to the maximum. Thus, you will use less disk space. On the down side, this does cause a performance hit (slight) and you would loose the ability to dual boot.

Of course, on a mac pro, you have disk space to burn. On my 160GB macbook pro (where my Windows 2003 images are for training) I need the space.

Philip

Hey Phillip great to read the comments. By using the "bootcamp" partition as my Windows VM I don't have to take up any more disk space and I can also just boot into bootcamp (windows only) so I have more flexability.

I never knew you could use your Vista SN to run XP. If that's really the case I will dump Vista. If you find any links can you send along. Good to hear from you again Phillip.

Hey Victor, about Windows....

I do not understand why you were installing it into Boot Camp. Once you virtualise, you're going to need the VM Drivers anyway. So what advantage does running from a partition give you? Am I missing something here?

Also, I thought that a Vista license could be used to activate a XP install. Maybe then you can ditch Vista? Again... could be wrong.

Take care (I will make it to a Sunday night again one day)

Philip

Thanks Kim, glad you like the show. I have removed the T-shirts for now since the logo apparently was a bit small. I get a very tiny cut on the shirts. That is it. It's not about me making money it's about sharing the show with those who love it. I had to cover my time costs and thats' the only reason. I will put the store back up when I have the logo size issue resolved. I suck at that kind of thing (graphics) , so...

As a recent switcher who has been TOTALLY assimilated (resistance was futile), my friends and co-workers' eyes are starting to glaze over because I continuously point out the myriad of deficiencies in our workplace Dells, and canNOT stop talking up the wonders of Macdom (praise Jobs)! :D

Have a terrific rest o' the week...

Mine's already on order, just a way of supporting your efforts - and who knows, SuperModel Amber Valletta is known to visit home and eat at the same restaurant I frequent for breakfast . . . maybe she'll need Mac advice . . . and the t-shirt . . .

Hey, Victor, rant on! There's a reason they call that OS "Windon't"

And maybe you're not receiving audio from we listeners for two reasons: (1) your 'casts are so excellently self contained; (2) your live Sundays get the action.

This edition was great. And I'm sold. No Parallels, no Fusion, and no Windoze --- but I'm lookin' forward to that new TMUP T-Shirt.
