  1. Noooo!

    Comment by Mike — May 30, 2008 @ 8:11 pm

  2. Afraid so Mike. Gotta take a stand and move towards the light. But that's only my personal take on it .)

    Comment by typicalmacuser — May 30, 2008 @ 8:58 pm

  3. Sure hate to hear it but understand (and support) your stand. Plus, it'll give you a breather while you adjust to the new (sorta) job. Sounds like you've been slammed alot lately…

'Tis funny – I'm not normally a fan of the 'live' shows, but always enjoyed yours. You'll have to throw out some minicasts to your newly deprived (no, not depraved) fans to tide us over the withdrawal symptoms. :)

    Take care, VEEK-Toor

  4. Yes I'm afraid it's been my turn in the barrel for a while now. My life is changing, the podcast is changing and I'll do it for as long as I can continue to afford it. I hope to continue to get other advertisers like Ambrosia who are supportive, so I can cover costs and have some profit. Without that it's not sustainable for me. That sadly is the fact of it after doing it for 3 years.

  5. Gosh, that's a shock but I completely support you Victor. I'm a long-time listener from the UK, never called in but listen via iTunes – I'll look forward to getting your other show. I was thinking that i really must thin out my podcasts anyway! Just a thought – could you use Skype? I know a few podcasters do.

    Comment by Darren Hendley — May 31, 2008 @ 3:03 am

  6. Well this sound more like Talk Shoe is killing to goose that laid the golden egg. With you pulling out as well at it sounds Adam as well. I do not see talk shoe staying around of very long. Most shows are more like to Teens talking about nothing and very uninteresting. So with the really good Podcast going. Well I do not see it staying very long. I very well understand why you are doing this and I am very much behind you Victor.

    Comment by Michael King — May 31, 2008 @ 3:52 am

  7. So what happened to doing the show because you love to do it? Talkshoe is free, isn't it? So why can't you just continue it, I'm very disappointed.

    Comment by Mark — May 31, 2008 @ 6:16 am

  8. Well would you look at that: MacCast Loop message

    Comment by johngrinde — May 31, 2008 @ 8:30 am

  9. I can tell you Talk Shoe has really messed a good thing up. And I am 100% behind Victor and the others that are now pulling out of Talk Shoe. And Talk Shoe has really Killed the Goose that Laid the Golden egg. What get me is that there are not many Mac podcast there and with this all the good ones are all gone. Now what on it are teens with some of there junk podcast and I know will not last long. So I do not see Talk Shoe lasting long now. So Victor I am behind you all the way and what ever you do next.

    Comment by MikeKing1023 — May 31, 2008 @ 10:43 am

  10. I do love it but , I have always been very upfront about the fact that its' also a business of mine. I am continuing to do the show on Wed and will find another platform to do something live. I can't use Talkshoe because of their announcement. I understand their business decision , however I cannot support how they went about doing it. I wish them the best. As for me my love for the show, does not pay the bills it costs to run it. That's the truth of it.

    Comment by typicalmacuser — May 31, 2008 @ 3:22 pm

  11. It takes a lot of time and effort to add a live show to the regular show. A regular recorded show can be done whenever one has time. A live show takes commitment of time and resources. And if the podcaster is not getting compensated for it then it is not really worth doing a live show AND a regular recorded show.

    Comment by georgestarcher — May 31, 2008 @ 6:17 pm

  12. Skype can't really do the numbers of people that attend a live show. Maybe something like ustream might work but there would not be any live calls, more like live questions in the chat window and repeated. It is just something Victor and other podcasters have to look at and think over.

    Comment by georgestarcher — May 31, 2008 @ 6:19 pm

  13. Yes Victor it is a business and i think that you leaving talkshoe is going to effect them badly

    Comment by Kyle — May 31, 2008 @ 6:43 pm

  14. I do not understand the decision of TalkShoe. It looks like they will loose a lot of content. If their business model is to sell advertising and share it with their content providers. Based on Victor's and Adam's announcements, some of the better content is being lost. Result for talkshoe: no content, no revenue, no business.

Depending upon the alternatives available for a live show, consider a monthly live show with Adam and Victor

    Comment by Pierre B — May 31, 2008 @ 8:15 pm

  15. Pierre, thanks for the comments,. I too totally understand and respect Talkshoes right to run their business (it's theirs to run). I need to run my business. So I support and standby the technology that Talkshoe uses. Sometimes change is good. Of course I'll be looking for other business opportunities to do a live show and technologies. we will have to wait and see. Since Adam and I do the Loop as well, I 'm sure something will turn up. I dont' forsee at this time a regular live show, however YES I will look into doing something live as ad-hoc shows as I mentioned on the audio file.

    Comment by typicalmacuser — May 31, 2008 @ 8:48 pm

  16. I jumped ship on them last year when they changed their business model and it affected me since I didn't run the 'Live' show. The 10% of the people that they say want to make money are probably the 10% that drew in the most listeners and downloaders — the numbers advertisers will be looking for.

They changed my deal to 1/10th of 1 cent per download (or something miniscule, I can't remember exactly now) and I said there is no way I'm going to make my audience hear an ad that isn't even going to benefit my production costs.

I totally understand your stance VMC as a Podcsater. As a fan, I will miss hearing the live show and Maccast loop.

  17. I will work out some way of doing lie content. Right now I have to sit back and re-tool. Thanks J it means a lot.

    Comment by typicalmacuser — May 31, 2008 @ 9:22 pm

  18. Victor's really great about finding, using and experimenting with new Internet based technology. I'm sure he'll find something (soon) that will both benefit us as listeners, participants and friends and also be rewarding financially. (Yeah, I know it's not all about the money, but it sure is nice to make some $$$ doing something you love)

    Good luck Victor!

    Comment by tma_steve — June 1, 2008 @ 7:33 am

  19. Yes I will look for sure and it is NOT all about the money but I do need the to fund the business That is fundamental.

    Comment by typicalmacuser — June 1, 2008 @ 9:56 am

  20. Sorry to see your live shows go dark for a while, and hope you find a viable alternative soon. As a regular listener from 'the other side of the pond', you enthusiasm was infectious and the presentation & content always first class. Good luck and hope you're back on the air soon.

    Comment by Chris — June 1, 2008 @ 2:03 pm

  21. Well the show will very much still be here and so will my enthusiasm. So don't go anywhere and keep subscribed.

    Comment by typicalmacuser — June 1, 2008 @ 4:40 pm

  22. How the heck am I going to get my monthly maintenance fix NOW? (yea… I'm selfish… it's all about me).

But Victor can only do what is best for his business. Maybe the loss of the live show will affect his numbers. So he'll start it again. Maybe they'll go up because he can spend more time on he studio shows, or just be more able to do the shows because he is less stressed. Who knows.

All I know is I'll miss the few Sundays I could make it.

  23. It's funny how when a company like talkshoe who had successfully supported hosts for a period, gets the short end of the stick because they suddenly can not afford to continue paying people. If you are thinking they can afford it, then you are wrong.

I think your decision is selfish. And goes to show that in a world of “business” no one can depend on people to be loyal contributers when times are tough…. only if they get their money. If not, they up an leave. Lame.

    Comment by Anon — June 2, 2008 @ 10:04 am

  24. We can agree to disagree.

    Comment by typicalmacuser — June 2, 2008 @ 4:45 pm

  25. Not to turn this into a flame war, but you're so loyal to Victor's show that you post anonymously… you are definitely one to give advice. ;)

    Comment by Kennon — June 4, 2008 @ 1:46 pm

  26. It was an honor to be a guest on the live show a while back Victor, and even with one show a week, plus the blog posts you produce an amazing amount of great content.

    All the best,
