Online Applecare Self Help

by: George Starcher, Associate Editor

I just had the nicest experience with Applecare.  Sure I am about to dodge rocks as I say I love my Mighty Mouse.  I am addicted to the little roller ball for scrolling in all directions.  For a while it started the usual well known sticking or lack of control.  I did all the usual tricks to extend its life.  Can of air.  The upside scrubbing on a microfiber cloth.  It finally died completely.

We have a great Apple store here in Nashville.  Honestly though I had no desire to drive 30 minutes one way to swap out a mouse using a genius bar appointment.  So I took a chance and looked up the Apple care number.  I found in the process I could just fill out a self service ticket.  I submitted it on December 4th and the mouse showed up today on the 8th.  It came with a dual layer shipping label.  So all I had to do is drop the old mouse in the box, peel off the top label and the return label is underneath.  Tomorrow I just drop it off at a fedex friendly mail shop since I dont want to call for pickup and it is all done.

So if you have a mighty mouse that came with your mac and it is still under apple care.  Just go to Apple Support,  click the link to “Check my warranty and support options” in the bottom right.  Paste in your mac serial number and pick your country.  At least in the US I got a self service option.  They did not have a selection for mouse, so I picked keyboard, keys sticking.  Then I got a selection for mouse.  I picked that, entered comments that I tried the apple recommended rubbing on the microcloth, can of air etc.  That was all there was to it.  So mighty mouse lovers stand by your mouse.  Use your apple care and be happy.
