I have a flying saucer base station! Do you think it's time I upgraded??? George mentioned how lousy his Lynksys is, well, I've got a Netgear and it's rubbish compared to my old basestation! We have 2 Mac desktops, 2 Mac laptops, a Wii, 2 DS and an iPod touch using the basestation. Not all together but up to 3 at a time and it seems to cope as long as we're not all doing heavy stuff. The range is good enough to cover most of our small house. So could I expect some improvements with this new one do you think?

True but Bart's point is to trouble shoot that your Internet is working and the issue is dns is NOT working that yes you do need to know an IP to ping directly. If ping typicalmacuser.com does not work but pinging it by IP does then you know it is a dns issue.

One comment about the terminal segment and needing to know an IP address to ping something. You don't need to know an ip address to ping something, you just do a:

ping typicalmacuser.com

and press enter

Like we said on the show we have to assume it uses the 2.4 radio (G) network, it makes the most sense

Did you guys figure out which radio the guest network uses. I would love to lock it on the slower connection. I have been looking all over to see if I can find out. Thanks for the great show.
